I had the opportunity to serve as the International Communications & Event Planning Intern for the Global Business School Network (GBSN) during the 2018 summer and fall semesters. Currently, I attend The George Washington University as an International Education master’s candidate, while simultaneously pursuing a certificate to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). International Education is such a broad field filled with ample opportunities. With this internship, I was able to gain practical skills on what’s it like to work for an international non-profit and international development.
I worked closely with Nicole Zefran, who serves as the Communication Officer. Under Nicole’s guidance, I enhanced my knowledge in event planning, marketing, and website maintenance by creating and publishing content for the GBSN website and social media. Working hands-on with the 2018 GBSN Annual Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya, I learned how much time and dedication goes into planning an event overseas. I sat in on various meetings/conference calls, assisted with logistics, and created promotional and other conference related materials.
Working with GBSN, I never felt like an intern but as a colleague because of the tasks I was assigned; it was not just “busy” work. My time at GBSN has been a rewarding and fulling experience. I have gained the necessary skills to help as I transition into the working field. I’ve acquired a great deal of hard and soft skills that will contribute to my journey to becoming an impactful, well-versed, and culturally competent educator.
Thank you to Nicole, Fabienne, and Stephanie for your support and leadership during my time at GBSN. I wish you all the best!
