GBSN Community Conversations

Conversations Facilitated by Members, for Members

GBSN Community Conversations bring together individuals from GBSN members and partners who share common interests or objectives. These intimate gatherings provide a dynamic space for networking, discussion, and shared learningā€”strengthening the contributions of management education to the development needs of society.

What are GBSN Community Conversations?

  • Member-Led: Each conversation is initiated, framed, and led by a GBSN member (the ā€œHostā€), ensuring that the session is tailored to the interests and needs of the community.
  • Active Engagement: These sessions are designed as a platform for every participant to speak and share. They are not intended for pitches or one-way presentations.
  • Intimate Settings: By convening smaller groups of individuals with shared interests, Community Conversations foster deep, meaningful interactions and effective knowledge sharing.

Why Participate?

  • Network with Purpose: Connect with peers who share your interests and objectives.
  • Engage in Thoughtful Discussion: Contribute to conversations that matter to you.
  • Collaborate: Establish connections and opportunities to collaborate with other Member Schools within the Network.

Join us for an upcoming GBSN Community Conversationā€”where every conversation is a step towards building a stronger, more connected global community.

Research Centers in Decent Work

Hosted by Reece Garcia from Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, United Kingdom

Research Centers Focused on “Decent Work”

Date: Thursday, 27 March, 8 – 9am US Eastern

This interactive session brings together research-active participants and representatives from affiliated research centers within the GBSN network to explore potential collaborations on the theme of decent work. The session will be facilitated by Reece Garcia from Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, providing insights into how decent work is conceptualized within their institution, ongoing projects in this space, and key areas for potential collaboration.

Participants will then be invited to share their perspectives on decent work in their respective contexts and discuss relevant research efforts within their institutions. Through guided discussions, we will explore:

  • How decent work is defined and understood across different GBSN member institutions.
  • Existing research that advances the theory and practice of decent work.
  • Opportunities for international collaboration on ongoing research projects.

By fostering cross-institutional dialogue, this session aims to connect researchers with shared interests, spark new ideas, and lay the foundation for impactful research partnerships that drive positive change in the field of decent work.

Entrepreneurship Development in Extreme Settings

Hosted by Renato Pereira from ISCTE Business School, Portugal

Date: Tuesday, 1 April, 8 -9am US Eastern

Join us for an intimate Community Conversation exploring entrepreneurship development in severely distressed populations, particularly focusing on regions where informal economies have emerged as essential survival mechanisms. This virtual gathering will bring together a small group of academics and practitioners who share an interest in extending entrepreneurship education beyond the traditional populations served by universities.

We seek to explore how universities can meaningfully engage with and support entrepreneurial development in communities where formal education is limited and where young people face extreme circumstances. Drawing from experiences in regions like Angola and Mozambique, we’ll discuss approaches to nurturing entrepreneurial spirit in settings where basic business knowledge is scarce but survival ingenuity abounds.

This conversation aims to connect scholars who are either actively working in such contexts or interested in developing initiatives that can make a significant difference in the lives of people in extreme settings. We’ll explore questions around appropriate pedagogical approaches, building effective partnerships with civil associations and NGOs, and creating pathways to independence through entrepreneurship education.

The session will be facilitated by Professor Renato Pereira, who brings extensive experience working with communities in Portuguese-speaking Africa. Pereira is also Professor of General Management at ISCTE Business School (Lisbon, Portugal) and Coordinator of the Emerging Markets Research Center at ISCIM (Maputo, Mozambique).logue, this session aims to connect researchers with shared interests, spark new ideas, and lay the foundation for impactful research partnerships that drive positive change in the field of decent work.
