John was the CEO of Euroclear UK & Ireland until September 2019 and is now a non-executive director. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the SWIFT Institute, Special Advisor to the International Business Diplomatic Exchange, and an editor of the Journal of Financial Market Infrastructure. John chairs the Founders Committee of the UK charity, Blind in Business and was chair of its Board of Trustees until 2019.

John chaired the statutory Markets Practitioner Panel of the Financial Conduct Authority from 2017-19 and was a member from 2013. Before becoming CEO of EUI he was the Chief Risk Officer of the Euroclear group (2005-12). Before that he worked for the Bank of England for 26 years and was head of the Financial Markets Infrastructure and Business Continuity Divisions. He was Private Secretary to the Governor. John was the UK member of the Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems of the Bank for International Settlements and chaired the committee that produced the Core Principles for Systemically Important Payment Systems.

John has an economics degree from Cambridge University and an MBA from the London Business School.
