Executive Director, Institute for Compensation Studies
Linda Barrington is the Associate Dean, External Relations, for the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business at Cornell University. She is also the Executive Director of the Institute for Compensation Studies (ICS), an interdisciplinary initiative in that analyzes, teaches, and communicates broadly about monetary and non-monetary rewards from work. Previously, Barrington served as Associate Dean for Outreach and Sponsored Research at Cornell’s ILR School. Barrington came to Cornell from The Conference Board, a global business membership and research organization. There, she held several positions over the past 10 years, including economist, special assistant to the CEO, research director, and most recently Managing Director of Human Capital. Barrington began her professional career on the economics faculty at Barnard College of Columbia University. She has also taught at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), the University of Michigan, and the University of Illinois.
Barrington has conducted research on new workforce entrants, business leaders’ perceptions of their top challenges, compensation, the working poor, gender, and poverty. Her work appears in the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Economic History, and the Historical Statistics of the U.S., as well as numerous business-research reports. Barrington’s most recent book, Employment and Work – Disability: Key Issues and Future Directions, is published in the SAGE Reference Series. She earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois, and a B.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin.
