Lwazi Ngubevana

Director of the African Energy Leadership Centre (AELC)

Prof Lwazi Ngubevana is the Director of the African Energy Leadership Centre (AELC) at the Wits Business School in Johannesburg, a first of its kind on the African continent, whose mandate is to develop the next generation of leaders in the African energy sector. The AELC has three pillars that support its mandate, providing executive education and postgraduate qualifications (postgraduate diploma, master’s and PhD degrees) in energy leadership, research and thought leadership, and networking seminars. An experienced energy and business professional; he has extensive process design, business development, process re-engineering, project development, project and programme management experience in renewable energy. Lwazi sits on a number of advisory boards, such as the expert panel providing strategic and technical guidance to the Minister of Environmental Affairs on SO2 emissions, and being a member of an expert review panel assisting the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) with Section 12L (of the Income Tax Act, 1962) Energy Efficiency baseline and performance assessments. He holds an MBA and a PhD (Engineering) from a top university and is an internationally published scholar.
