Marc Johnson is Executive Director for Global Affairs for the Darden School. In addition to leading the Darden Center for Global Initiatives (DCGI), he guides and advocates for Darden’s global engagement, partnerships and strategy, working alongside leaders across the enterprise to advance the school’s impact and reach around the world. He also works closely with key stakeholders in various schools and departments at the University of Virginia to further university-wide efforts globally.
He previously served at Darden as the Associate Director of the Tayloe Murphy Center, focusing on economic development through entrepreneurship in Virginia communities facing economic challenges. Prior to coming to the Darden School, Johnson served as Assistant Director and Director of Programs at the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at UVA, where he oversaw programs on Virginia politics and leadership for groups ranging from high school students to working adults. Johnson holds an MBA from the Darden School and an M.Ed. from the Curry School at UVA and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of William & Mary with a degree in Government, with a focus on International Relations. He currently serves on the Advisory Council of the Reves Center for International Studies at William & Mary and is a member of the Virginia Board for the Blind and Vision Impaired.
He currently teaches political leadership and civics in the Sorensen Institute’s programs and has taught entrepreneurship and nonprofit management for the UVA School of Continuing and Professional Studies. He is the co-author of several entrepreneurship case studies and, in 2006, co-authored an article in Academic Exchange Quarterly on the effectiveness of civic education programs in preparing college students for leadership roles in politics and public life.
