Head, Ecobank Academy
Simon REY is a strategist, designer, and educator. He joined Ecobank Group in 2014 to help operationalize the Ecobank Academy and develop group leadership development strategy. Since then, he has occupied several senior positions within Ecobank Group. Currently, he holds the position of Group Head of Talent, Learning & Organizational Development as well as Head of Ecobank Academy.
Prior to joining Ecobank Group, Simon has worked for global consulting and leadership development firms as well as leading multinational corporations in multiple sectors including Technology, Energy, Telecommunication, International Organizations, and Finance. At the age of 26, he became one of the youngest directors in the industry and was instrumental in creating a ground-up approach which introduced leadership strategy and management consulting to Africa and other emerging markets.
During his career he held several in positions ranging from Strategy Development, Program and Product Design, Research and Organizational Development as well as overall Business Management. In his global and current pan-African work, Simon has led multicultural and multi-regional teams, functions and businesses across Africa, Europe, and North America.
A Tanzanian and Belgian national, Simon’s life work is to design and execute strategy-driven solutions that empower individuals, teams, organizations, and communities, to turn leadership challenges into sustainable opportunities by leveraging interconnectedness of people, structures, systems, and processes.
Simon’s research and publications include – Leaders as Chief Knowledge Curators (CLO); Leadership Development in Africa: A Focus on Strengths (CCL); Using values to deliver sustainable results (HR UK Magazine) and Execution Readiness. Author of an upcoming book, Execution Readiness. Simon has also appeared on CNBC Africa, CLO magazine, eNews, SABC Radio and Business Day.
