Dr Vivienne Spooner joined GIBS in 2002 as a programme manager in Executive Education, following a two-decade high school mathematics teaching career. She is a long-time member of the GIBS doctoral programmes management team. .

A proponent of lifelong learning Dr Spooner, a late life-stage scholar graduated with a PhD in adult education from UKZN in 2019 and her research focused on nonformal learning in a leadership programme, Nexus, at GIBS. She found that, through Nexus, participants can experience profound transformative learning that begins with self and informs their praxis of leadership. Her research interest lies in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, focusing on how learning happens in post-graduate studies

Dr Spooner has served as a committee member of the Research Ethics Committee at GIBS and supervises MBA students whose research interests are in leadership or learning. She has also taught Research Design to PGDip (BS), and is Faculty Lead for the MPhil in evidence-based management.

Dr Spooner maintains an interest in the teaching of mathematics and until recently worked with Brombacher and Associates in early grade math teacher development.
