2018 Annual Conference

The 2018 GBSN Annual Conference was a great success. Over 120 leaders in business education, industry, development and government gathered in Nairobi, Kenya to participate in a 3-day conference on Transforming Traditional Sectors: Educating Entrepreneurial Leaders to Drive Systemic Change co-hosted by Strathmore Business School and the Chandaria School of Business, USIU Africa.

The conference was sponsored by MIT Sloan School of Management, Monash University Business School and Johnson & Johnson.

We had the pleasure of welcoming: 

  • 60 universities from 37 countries, from Mexico to Senegal, Kenya, Canada, Nigeria, Finland, Kyrgyzstan, Japan, Egypt, Australia, Lebanon, etc.
  • Colleagues from the private sector, including Johnson & Johnson, EY, DHL, IBM

About the Conference

The 2018 GBSN Annual Conference in Nairobi will focus on how innovative, interdisciplinary and collaborative ways of educating entrepreneurial leaders can transform traditional sectors, including Mining & Oil, Agriculture, Tourism and Healthcare. The conference will feature global experts and regional innovators who are driving change in sectors that are critical to development of countries around the globe but also too often entrenched in outdated ideologies and practices.

The agenda will focus on four broad enablers of entrepreneurial leadership: Technology & Big Data; Responsible Leadership; Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration; and Teaching the Tools of Innovation.

The Interactive Agenda will Feature

  • Cross-Sector Stakeholder Dialogueswith educators, professionals, government officials, students and entrepreneurs to do a deep dive into the challenges and opportunities in a particular sector
  • Experts from industry, education, government and international aidsharing their experience, perspective and lessons learned
  • Business school showcasesof approaches to educating entrepreneurial leaders for systemic change
  • Research Roundtablesfeaturing scholarly and applied research on the cross-sector enablers of entrepreneurial leadership in traditional sectors
  • ‘Back to Class’ sessions for non-academics and curious educatorsto experience an interactive teaching demonstration of entrepreneurial leadership tools
  • Networking, interactive plenaries and breakout sessionsdesigned to give participants valuable information and tangible takeaways they can employ when they leave
