This semester, I spent my time in Washington, DC as 1 of 20 students from the University of California, Berkeley participating in the University of California, Washington, DC program for Spring 2017. During this program, students from all UC campuses take classes together and complete a semester long internship of their finding.
My time in DC was an incredible experience from start to finish and I owe much of my learning and professional growth this semester to GBSN.
As a prospective business school applicant with academic research and study abroad experience in the realms of business education and international development, my internship with GBSN as International Network Engagement Intern could not have been a better fit.
This semester I had the opportunity to learn about the many programs and initiatives GBSN has had and is currently implementing across the world, I had the chance to participate in the grant finding and grant writing process for a few of GBSN’s current initiatives, I was able to attend two amazing events: Georgetown’s Africa Business Conference and the Aspen Institute’s Steven’s Initiative Virtual Exchange Forum and perhaps the most exciting portion of my internship, planning and preparing for GBSN’s upcoming annual conference.
This year, GBSN’s conference focuses on the intersections of business education and economic development, the first in which GBSN has opened a call for contributions to members of the business education, economic development and policy communities. It was an awesome experience participating in the application review process; I had the opportunity to read proposals from some of the top business schools and organizations in the world and learn about their ideas around the role of business education in development.
More than anything, it was an invaluable experience working alongside the GBSN team in shaping the agenda for this incredible event and I cannot wait to return to D.C. in November to attend!
I graduate this May from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and will be participating in the University of California Education Abroad Program where I will be spending four weeks in Mexico City improving my Spanish language skills and studying Mexican history and culture. I will also have the opportunity to take a class at Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico (UNAM). Upon my return to California in August, I will be joining Bain & Company as a Recruiting Assistant in their San Francisco office.
