GBSN Members are Invited to February’s Cross-Border Collab: Developing Managers and Rebalancing Society
The February Collab will feature special guest Dr. Henry Mintzberg. Dr. Mintzberg is a Professor of Management Studies at McGill University and an accomplished writer, having authored 20 books and countless articles on management education and business strategy, including Managers not MBAs and Simply Managing. Recognized as a leader in challenging the status quo of business education, Dr. Mintzberg will join us to talk about about rebalancing society, understanding organizations, and what both mean for developing managers.
In the session we will discuss several points Dr. Mintzberg makes in his book, Managers not MBS’s around the belief that “conventional MBA classrooms overemphasize the science of management while ignoring its art and denigrating its craft”. We will also explore the dynamic solutions Dr. Mintzberg proposes in his book Rebalancing Society. Faced with the challenges of political polarization, human exploitation, and climate change, business schools are perfectly positioned to help support the growth and development of a rebalanced society. We will discuss how we can “engage in social movements and social initiatives that challenge destructive practices and replace them with constructive ones.”
Dr. Mintzberg will join us as we re-examine the role of business schools in developing managers and helping to rebalance society. We will consider questions like:
- What can business school do to reemphasize a more engaging style of management?
- What unique role can business schools play in the rebalancing of society?
- How can GBSN Members leverage the GBSN Network to develop more engaging managers and challenge societal imbalance?
