Guy PfeffermannI wrote a year ago about the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Then in the planning stage, they were enshrined last September in a United Nations resolution as “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” These goals, much like their predecessors, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), will have significant influence over development strategies going forward. The work of international financial institutions such as the World Bank and the regional development banks, bilateral aid agencies, foundations and other private development assistance donors will be governed largely by the new Goals. Why do the SDGs matter to the GBSN community?

Every year, the Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship at MIT builds a cohort of approximately 20 highly motivated entrepreneurial leaders from MIT who are accelerating progress in the developing world through their innovation-drivenventures. During this 1-year fellowship, students focus on building and scaling their innovative product or service “on the ground” as well as building the necessary knowledge, capabilities, mindset and networks to ensure maximum impact and a sustainable future.

MBAs Without Borders is currently recruiting for a bilingual French/English speaker to use their business skills to make a sustainable impact on community health and well-being through a market-based water and sanitation project in West Africa. Interested? MBAs Without Borders is searching for a candidate who’s not only excited to work with a dedicated team in Cote d’Ivoire (with travel to Benin!) for a one-year assignment but also someone who can bring their business acumen to the table to support the successful implementation of this project. This project is set to begin in June or July of this year – just after graduation!

>> 22nd CEEMAN Case Writing Competition
CEEMAN and Emerald are delighted to launch the 22nd Annual Case Writing Competition. The aim of the competition is to encourage and promote the development of high-quality teaching case material relevant for the realities of dynamic and emerging economies, and at the same time promote the development of case-writing capabilities in those countries. All case submissions will be considered for international publication. The total CEEMAN/Emerald award prize pool is worth over €10,000, including €4,000 prize money. Prizes are awarded to the overall winner and two runners-up.
