The 2022 Women on Boards annual monitoring report fifth edition, produced by the AUC School of Business’ Women on Boards Observatory, was launched on May 23, 2023, in a virtual event in collaboration with the observatory partners, Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, National Council for Women, The Financial Regulatory Authority and The UN Women in Egypt.Initiated by the AUC School of Business in 2017, the Women on Boards Observatory is recognized as a specialized observatory within the framework of the National Council for Women and advocates for the presence of 30% women on boards in Egypt by 2030. Associates of the Women on Boards Observatory represent a unique partnership, bringing together the government, business associations, research institutions, international establishments and non-government organizations.
The observatory received the 2022 Innovations That Inspire award from AACSB and the AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards 2022/23.The report tracks the representation of women in senior leadership positions of almost 1000 companies and banks in Egypt. The latest results show impressive progress in the total representation of women on boards across all four categories: Non-banking financial sector, Egyptian Exchange listed companies, banking sector and the public enterprise sector, as they reflect a positive growth rate of 18.2%, 13.8%, 16.2% and 14.8%, respectively.Such statistics mark another significant milestone for Women on Boards, as the total number of women on boards reached 1320 compared to 1043 in 2021 – a marking growth rate of 26.6%. Overall, the women on boards indicator reached 19.7% compared to 16.7% for the year before. Sustaining the 3% annual increase pattern achieved over the past three years will enable the analyzed categories to reach the 2030 strategy goal of 30% women on boards by 2026.
