The American University in Cairo (AUC) School of Business has officially concluded the 3rd edition of its #IMovedMyBusinessForward campaign themed on family business. The campaign was initiated by Business Forward, the knowledge portal of the School, and powered by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The campaign objective was to disseminate working knowledge about family businesses by presenting successful business models that were able to overcome typical family business challenges. Owners and leaders from family businesses shared their experiences on how family-owned companies can successfully grow and be sustained across generations.
The campaign circulated the obtained knowledge through various types of content that emphasized the skills and strategies required to address family business challenges, such as succession planning, inter-generational leadership and governance issues. Wafaa Sabry, Senior Director of External Relations, AUC School of Business, highlighted, “In recognition of the important role family businesses have on the economy and society, plus the need for more in-depth understanding of family business dynamics, #IMovedMyBusinessForward campaign focused on family business. It is part of a year-long initiative, which included a series of webinars, public talks roundtable discussions, an international family business research day, culminating in the campaign’s closing event. The aim was to share the knowledge, research findings and recommendations to assist family businesses in implementing the best practices conducive to growth and sustainability.”
Since the campaign’s launch in December 2022, up to the closing event on June 7, 2023, Business Forward reached 3+ million people via social media and provided relevant written and audio-visual content through faculty and participating companies. There were 37 family businesses that applied to join, 14 were shortlisted and their stories were presented on the campaign page for audience voting and jury selection. All participating companies engaged in panel discussions in the closing event and were awarded for their contribution to knowledge sharing and providing practical insights for other family businesses to follow.
