Global Himalayan Expedition

Global Treks logo

Within the GBSN Global Treks Program, the Global Himalayan Expedition is an experiential trek designed to enhance leadership skills and networking opportunities of business school scholars and alumni through social impact––literally bringing light to a remote Himalayan village. The Global Himalayan Expedition works towards providing clean energy access through solar power to the remote communities. The objective is to implement the solution in a sustainable, scalable and environmentally beneficial manner, leading to an overall development of the community while empowering the local village population.

The Global Himalayan Expedition incorporates the core themes of ‘service to the people,’ sustainability, climate change and resilience, while allowing students to explore themselves as individuals disconnected from the world of social media. Participants will travel to remote communities in the Himalayas and are welcomed by centuries old culture and tradition. They survey the villages to gain an understanding of the energy needs to design the setup of the grid. Once the design is completed, participants will work hand-in-hand with the local community to setup the Solar Panels and the Batteries and install the bulb holders. The Global Himalayan Expedition also encourages cross collaboration projects, allowing participants to work on a local problem by building a practical solution as part of their trip.
