University of St. Gallen Provides 10 Scholarships to its Global School in Empirical Research Methods 2018

GBSN works with our member schools to offer opportunities for international exchange, support and development within the network. These member-led initiatives enrich faculty, students and campuses with cross-border connections and help to spread best practice throughout the network.

For the fifth year in a row, The University of St. Gallen offered up to 10 scholarship opportunities to Ph.D. students from GBSN member schools in developing countries, to attend its Global School in Empirical Research Methods (GSERM).

The GSERM is a flagship program on methodology at the University of St. Gallen. It is a high-calibre integrated program teaching methodology for PhD students, postdocs and practitioners from leading universities all over the world. GSERM offers an attractive course-based learning atmosphere on different aspects of empirical research.

GSERM is structured in different modules. Participants select one course per week as these courses are taught concurrently. You can find a detailed course description by clicking on the course name.

GSERM courses are divided into different levels: basic, intermediate, advanced and research. Please pay careful attention to indicated levels in the course directory. Courses on research level (PEF-courses) are especially designed for PhD students in Economics with substantial background in quantitative methods.

  • Use of the universities library
    Karl Emil Wild evening lecture series on questions of research methodology (at University of St. Gallen)
  • Social Programme on evenings & weekends
  • Free Access to Sports Lessons and Gym (at University of St. Gallen and BI Norwegian Business School)
  • Beverages & fruit before class
    WiFi on campus / accommodation
  • Support of GSERM team (24 h hotline)
  • Accommodation (if requested)

Course Benefits:

  • University of St. Gallen transcript with 4 ECTS if you successfully pass the exam
  • Taking the exam is not mandatory
  • Certificate of Attendance will be issued upon email request
  • Network with fellow researchers from all over the globe and very devoted international GSERM faculty

Offering courses in quantitative and qualitative statistics, the GSERM program has expanded to three different locations in Europe and one in South America.

After enduring the competitive application process, 5 applicants from the following GBSN member schools were awarded a scholarship:

Lagos Business School, Nigeria
Strathmore Business School, Kenya
Wits Business School, South Africa

These GBSN scholars receive tuition and lodging during an invigorating week of honing their research skills with leading faculty.
