We hope GBSN Members will join us on Thursday, October 19th, at 8:00am ET for the October Collab where we have the privilege of welcoming Iryna Tykhomyrova, President of MIM Business School at the International Management Institute (MIM-Kyiv). As a leader in the industry and a member of the academicâmethodological commission on management at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine we are honored to have President Tykhomyrova share her experiences with our network.

We are excited to announce the September Collab will feature a riveting conversation between Dan LeClair, the CEO of the Global Business School Network, and the eminent Prof. Dr. Nick van Dam, a distinguished Human Development Scientist and the Director of the IE Center for Corporate Learning & Talent Management at IE University. The focal point of their discussion will be the prospect of the Future of Work and its profound implications for business schools worldwide. With a shared sense of urgency, they will delve into the imperative for business schools to adapt and equip students with the skills demanded by the rapidly evolving job landscape. LeClair and Prof. Dr. van Dam will explore the essential role of lifelong learning, emphasizing the ever-growing importance of upskilling and reskilling to ensure professionals remain agile and relevant in the face of technological disruptions.
Throughout the industry there has been a resounding affirmation of the significance of lifelong learning in the modern era. The days of a linear education followed by a static career path are over and we are seeing a transformative shift towards continuous learning, advocating for a seamless integration of education into the fabric of one’s professional journey. In the Collab, we will explore the myriad of ways business schools must re envision their curriculum, delivery methods, and partnerships to empower students to become lifelong learners and adaptable problem solvers.
Dr. LeClair and Prof. Dr. van Dam’s will also examine the realm of e-learning for children, a realm rapidly gaining momentum. We are honored to have Head and Director of Wits Business School Maurice Radebe joining us for the June Collab. Formerly Executive Vice President responsible for Sasolâs Energy Business globally, Prof. Radebe has over 30 years of experience working in the energy sector with companies like Shell, Exel, and Sasol. Since 2013, Prof. Radebe has used his extensive knowledge of leadership and the energy industry to provide real life business experience to the learning environment of Wits Business School.

The April Collab will feature special guest Rob van Tulder, professor of International Business at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, and co-founder of the Department of Business-Society Management, one of the worldâs leading capacity groups on teaching and research in sustainable business. As a pioneer of teaching sustainable business, Dr. van Tulder will share with us his unique journey tackling the complex challenges of teaching sustainability and explore with us the exciting opportunities for business schools at the intersection of sustainability and internationalization.
We will also discuss Dr. van Tulderâs recent publication, Principles of Sustainable Business and his experience writing an integrated approach to sustainable business education. His book is designed to provide graduate and postgraduate(executive) students, policymakers and business professionals a window into the complexities of sustainable business. Paul Polman, Former Unilever CEO and recent Collab guest, said âPrinciples of Sustainable Business presents state-of-art science-based answersâ. We are honored to have Ayat Soliman of the World Bank joining us for the March Collab. As the Regional Director for Sustainable Development for Eastern and Southern Africa she is responsible for setting policy direction and ensuring the integrated delivery of sustainable development programs in 26 countries across the region. Ms. Solimanâs knowledge will be invaluable as we discuss how GBSN Members can foster the growth of the sustainability leaders of the future.
Ms. Soliman has over 25 years of experience working on sustainability issues ranging from water, agriculture, social and urban development, in addition to the multitude of issues surrounding climate change in various regions around the world. She helps support communities and countries alike as they make the change to greener low carbon economies in an effort to combat many of the cross-cutting issues of climate change. This shift is having an impact on the labor market and is highlighting the importance of having strong public and private sector stakeholders to support sustainability projects, locally and globally.Â
In the March Collab, Ms. Soliman will help us examine a variety of questions surrounding sustainability in business schools including:
- What shifts do we see in terms of needed skills in the current sustainability labor market?
- How can business schools prepare their students to be effective leaders in the current sustainability sector?

GBSN Members are Invited to February’s Cross-Border Collab: Developing Managers and Rebalancing Society
The February Collab will feature special guest Dr. Henry Mintzberg. Dr. Mintzberg is a Professor of Management Studies at McGill University and an accomplished writer, having authored 20 books and countless articles on management education and business strategy, including Managers not MBAs and Simply Managing. Recognized as a leader in challenging the status quo of business education, Dr. Mintzberg will join us to talk about about rebalancing society, understanding organizations, and what both mean for developing managers.
In the session we will discuss several points Dr. Mintzberg makes in his book, Managers not MBS’s around the belief that âconventional MBA classrooms overemphasize the science of management while ignoring its art and denigrating its craftâ. We will also explore the dynamic solutions Dr. Mintzberg proposes in his book Rebalancing Society. Faced with the challenges of political polarization, human exploitation, and climate change, business schools are perfectly positioned to help support the growth and development of a rebalanced society. We will discuss how we can âengage in social movements and social initiatives that challenge destructive practices and replace them with constructive ones.â
Dr. Mintzberg will join us as we re-examine the role of business schools in developing managers and helping to rebalance society. We will consider questions like:

GBSN is excited to kick off our 2023 Collab series with special guest Julian Birkinshaw, the Vice-Dean at the London Business School. Birkinshaw is also a Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and the Academic Director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Private Capital. As an expert on innovation, entrepreneurship renewal in large corporations, Birkinshaw will join us to discuss the purpose of business schools in helping the world tackle its greatest challenges.
In his most recent Financial Times article, Birkinshaw explores ways business schools can recenter their educational approach to address the most pressing societal and environmental issues. In the January Collab, Birkinshaw will help GBSN Members explore how we can put his insights into practice. We will discuss questions like:
